Primary forest (danish: Urskov)
6000 years ago, Denmark was covered by open forest and dense and dark swamp.
Today only 14 % of Denmark is covered by forests, and these are small monocultures where few species thrive. The forestry is carried out intensively and the old and fallen trees that would otherwise provide food and shelter for a wide range of species are chopped down and removed.
But in a few small spots in the landscapes, primal forest still exist with its abundance of species of plants and animals, death and decay. Here the forest is allowed to live its own life, without human interference.
It is the mood from these places I try to portray with this series of images that i am continuously working on.
